Manchester United could be set to move for Lazio defender and former Sunderland man Lorik Cana, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 30-year-old, who can play either as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, could prove a useful squad player for the Red Devils next season as David Moyes’ side could find themselves short in both of those positions.
With Nemanja Vidic confirmed as leaving the club, and Rio Ferdinand likely to follow, Cana would likely be brought in primarily as a defender to provide some experience to United’s backline.
However, with doubts over the futures of the likes of Anderson and Tom Cleverley as well, there could be a role for the Albanian international in midfield as well, with United seeming to lack some defensive awareness and aggression in that position this season. Cana has been a key player for Lazio since joining the club from Galatasaray in 2011, and he has played in the Premier League before, spending a single season with Sunderland in 2009/10. One name that’s cropped up recently is Lorik Cana, a United insider said. “Moyes likes his versatility and he’s someone who could come in and do a job straight away.
