Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke successfully underwent surgery to repair his achilles and is now set for a long recovery. The Belgium striker had an operation on Monday to repair the tear in his achilles and will no convalesce under the guidance of noted physical therapist Lieven Maesschalck, according to HLN. Benteke, 23, sustained the injury 10 days ago and was originally meant to go under the knife last week, but decided to wait. The Belgian international now faces a six month recovery period, but he does hope to play some part in Villa’s pre-season training. The injury came as a huge blow for Benteke who will miss the much-fancied Belgian’s World Cup campaign in Brazil. Benteke was an important component in helping the Belgium national side reach the tournament, but will now have to watch from the sidelines as Everton’s Romelu Lukaku gets promoted because of his absence. Lukaku will be playing for a transfer this summer, as he is expected to leave Chelsea, according to reports.
