Manchester United and Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit of in-demand German star Matthias Ginter after he revealed there had been no contact from Borussia Dortmund. German newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten had claimed this week that the 20-year-old was close to signing for last season’s Champions League finalists in a 9m deal from Freiburg. But when asked if he would be signing for Jurgen klopp’s side the star told Sport1.de: “No, there is still nothing to report from my side.”Ginter was on United’s short-list to strengthen the club’s defence in the summer with the centre-back sparking rumours he was ready to sign for the Red Devils after speaking of his pride at being linked with the Premier League champions. United will be buoyed by the news but ultimately the new manager will decide whether he wants the star. Ginter made his senior international appearance in Germany’s 1-0 win over Chile last month. United have been in the hunt for defenders after the announcement Nemanja Vidic would be leaving the club – with others likey to follow him.
