Tottenham Hotspur could join Manchester United in the pursuit of Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, [football] direct news understands. The Italian international has been with Juve for his entire career so far, but has suffered something of a dip in form this season and could be allowed to leave as several top clubs show an interest in securing his services. Spurs are likely to make a number of changes to their squad this summer, and could look to address the possibility that players such as Sandro and Mousa Dembele could be sold, leaving gaps in their midfield. Marchisio would be a solid and experienced replacement, and a club insider believes he is something of a favourite of the Tottenham Technical Director Franco Baldini. It remains to be seen who will be brought in as the next manager of the north London club, and it may be that they will have to approve the deal. Galatasaray are also thought to be contenders to sign Marchisio, and they could have the edge over both United and Spurs as they will be playing Champions League football next season.
