Tottenham Hotspur could offer an escape route to Manchester City outcast Micah Richards, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 25-year-old England defender has been out of the picture at the Etihad Stadium for some time now, falling behind Pablo Zabaleta in the club’s pecking order and making just nine Premier League appearances over the last two seasons.
Once regarded as one of the brightest prospects at City, Richards now looks to be on the way out this summer, and Tottenham appear to be keen on snapping him up as a potential replacement for Jan Vertonghen.
The Belgian centre-back admitted earlier this week that he could leave Spurs in the summer if they fail to qualify for the Champions League again, and the north London outfit are already on the lookout for possible replacements.

Although Richards has largely been used as a right-back for much of his career, he can operate centrally and has previously stated that he prefers playing as a centre-back. A City insider confirmed that Spurs were looking at the player, and that he doesn’t hold out much hope of breaking into Manuel Pellegrini’s plans anytime soon.
