Tottenham Hotspur face a tussle to land Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao with Atletico Madrid making an approach as they prepare to lose Diego Costa to Chelsea. Chelsea’s signing of Costa looks set to spark a merry-go-round of transfers as the La Liga leaders hope to fill the void of his departure with a prolific striker. Some reports have claimed Atletico will turn to Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado, who is still well regarded in Spain after his exploits with Valencia. This move may be preferable to Spurs as it means they will have cash to spend on a new striker, with the club looking short up-front with Emmanuel Adebayor the only regular contributor. But According to AS Atletico have already bid 10.5m for Spurs target Damiao, with the deal expected to be concluded when the season finishes – leaving the north Londoners having to look elsewhere. Damiao, 24, was constantly tipped to join Spurs during Harry Redknapp and Andre Villas-Boas’ reigns at White Hart Lane.
