New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen to lure compatriot Javier Pastore away from French giants Paris Saint-Germain, FootballDirectNews.com understands. A source close to White Hart Lane told FDN the Argentina international features prominently on a list of targets compiled with the summer transfer window in mind.
The club insider admitted Spurs have a fight on their hands to secure the 24-year-old’s signature because they cannot offer Champions League football, PSG are unwilling to sell and the player himself has so far given no indication that he wishes to leave the French capital.
However, the London outfit hope the prospect of linking up with fellow countryman Pochettino – who signed a five-year contract after leaving Southampton – and playing in the Premier League will be enough to make him consider a switch.
The next step is for chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Franco Baldini, who is in charge of player recruitment at Spurs, to make contact with PSG and Pastore’s agent, Marcelo Simonian. From there they can ascertain the likelihood of a deal being pushed over the line. Pochettino has been assured there are funds for him to spend this summer, in addition to any money generated through player sales in the coming weeks.
