Tottenham Hotspur flop Roberto Soldado’s likely departure from the club has raised the possibility of Diego Costa joining Chelsea. The Spanish forward has been a big disappointment for the north London club after his 26m move from Valencia last summer – with his stock falling so low that youngster Harry Kane is now preferred in front of him. Atletico Madrid are prepared to end Soldado’s London nightmare and take him back to Spain in the summer, according to European football sources, sparking rumours Cost will be joining the Blues. Soldado was a prolific goalscorer for Valencia before moving to Tottenham last summer but since his White Hart Lane switch he has scored 11 goals with five of those coming from the penalty spot. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will want to recoup most of the money paid for the striker and will look to use interest in the player from Italy to bump up his fee. Costa, meanwhile, waved to Chelsea fans after they sang his name following the stalemate in last night’s Champions League semi-final.
