Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an ambitious raid on Manchester City for misfiring striker Alvaro Negredo, [football] direct news understands. A source close to White Hart Lane told FDN Spurs are desperate to add much-needed firepower to their squad for next term and technical director Franco Baldini, who oversees player recruitment, hopes to lure the 28-year-old to north London. The Spain international made a barnstorming start to life in the Premier League following his arrival from La Liga outfit Sevilla a year ago, notching 24 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions. His partnership with talisman Sergio Aguero struck fear into defences up and down the country but Negredo sustained a shoulder injury in the League Cup semi-final, second leg win at West Ham United on January 21, and has failed to score since. At 16million, his transfer fee still appears to be a bargain judging by his early-season form, but he now finds himself behind Aguero, fit-again Stevan Jovetic and the rejuvenated Edin Dzeko in the pecking order and could be tempted by a fresh challenge.
