Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on snapping up Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o on a free transfer, [football] direct news understands. The 33-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and there is little chance of him remaining at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer. A source close to Spurs told FDN ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan hitman Eto’o tops a wishlist of strikers, with the north London outfit looking to add two forwards to their squad. They have been short up front since the February departure of England international Jermain Defoe to MLS side Toronto FC, while 26million signing Roberto Soldado has failed to live up to expectations since arriving from La Liga side Valencia nine months ago. Cameroon veteran Eto’o has plundered 11 goals in 33 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side this term. He has already ruled out a return to former club Inter, which has given Spurs further encouragement in their pursuit of the player.
