Tottenham Hotspur target Alberto Gilardino is being chased by Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande, according to fresh reports in Italy.

Tutto Mercato Web claims the Chinese Super League outfit have set their sights on the Genoa targetman, and an offer could be put on the table within a matter of weeks. A source close to White Hart Lane told FootballDirectNews.com the 31-year-old former AC Milan star features on a summer transfer window wishlist compiled by technical director Franco Baldini, who is in charge of player recruitment at Spurs.
Tottenham are anxious to add ideally two new strikers to their squad ahead of the 2014-15 campaign after finding themselves short of viable options in the final third of the pitch. England international Jermain Defoe was sold to MLS franchise Toronto FC in February, ex-Valencia man Roberto Soldado has so far failed to impress and club record signing Erik Lamela has not played since the end of December due to a back injury.

Gilardino, who missed out on a place in the Italy squad for this summer’s World Cup campaign in Brazil, has two years remaining on his contract with the Serie A club.
He is said to be valued at around 3million.
