Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Inter Milan for the signing of Napoli midfielder Valon Behrami, according to Infoticker. ch.
The Swiss international has reportedly expressed an interest in moving to the north London club, but he may still remain in Serie A as Inter hope to sign a new midfielder to bolster their options in that position this summer. With long-serving duo Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso both leaving the club as their contracts expired, and some doubt over the future of both Fredy Guarin and Ricardo Alvarez, Inter have seemingly identified Behrami as the ideal player to come in to provide some depth in that area. Liverpool and Everton have also both been linked with the 29-year-old in recent times, but Tottenham had recently emerged as favourites to sign the former West Ham United man, who had an injury-hit first spell in England between 2008 and 2011. Behrami has since gone on to enjoy an improvement in form with Fiorentina and Napoli, performing well in a changed role of defensive midfielder, having previously played out wide.
The player’s departure from Napoli may also be down to Rafael Benitez’s desire to bring in a new defensive midfielder, with Maxime Gonalons reportedly the priority target.
