Jose Mourinho lost a fourth consecutive Champions League semi-final as Chelsea were beaten by Atletico Madrid 3-1 on aggregate. Chelsea lost 3-1 in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday following last week’s 0-0 draw in the first leg at the Vicente Calderon, seeing Mourinho lose a fourth consecutive Champions League semi-final. Mourinho reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in all three season he spent as Real Madrid head coach, losing all three, and in his last season the Portuguese was denied leaving the Bernabeu with a trophy after Atletico defeated Los Blancos in the 2013 Copa del Rey final. As Diego Simeone masterminded Atletico’s first victory over Real in 26 meetings, both Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo were sent off at the Bernabeu, meaning that the Portuguese boss’ final season in charge ended trophy-less before leaving to return to Chelsea last summer. Barring a minor miracle in the Premier League, requiring both Liverpool and Manchester City to drop points in the final remaining games, Mourinho will end his first season back at Stamford Bridge without a trophy.
