Roma and Liverpool could be set to battle it out for the signing of Mallorca youngster Marco Asensio, according to Sport Media Set.
The 18-year-old winger, who has been compared to Barcelona star Lionel Messi, looks set to attract plenty of attention ahead of the summer transfer window after emerging as one of the most promising young players in Spanish football. Asensio has become a first-team regular for Mallorca this season in the Segunda Division, and has had scouts from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona watch him play on a number of occasions. Still, the talented youngster could yet end up abroad, with Liverpool and Roma looking like tempting offers for him at the moment, as they may be more likely to offer the regular playing time that Barca and Real might not. Under Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool have been known for handing opportunities for young players to impress, and Asensio looks like he could fit in well into their system and attacking style of play.

Roma are also on the lookout for attacking players after losing key pair Erik Lamela and Pabo Osvaldo last summer, and may prove a good next step for Asensio in his career. Watch Chelsea v Stoke on Saturday and Arsenal v Everton, West Ham v Liverpool on Sunday.
