Roma could make an ambitious approach to Tottenham Hotspur for Christian Eriksen this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Italian giants face the possibility of losing key playmaker Miralem Pjanic before next season, as the Bosnian international has stalled on signing a new contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
This could pave way for a move to any one of a number of interested clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United, and it is now thought that Roma would see Eriksen as the ideal replacement in his position.
The Danish international, 22, only just joined Spurs from Ajax this season, but with the club facing a tough task to qualify for the Champions League, a move to Roma could be tempting, with Rudi Garcia’s side looking more than likely to qualify for an automatic spot in next season’s competition. A Tottenham insider insisted, however, that the club would do their best to keep hold of Eriksen, despite interest from the Serie A outfit. We think Roma might try to sign him this summer, but we’re definitely not looking to sell him, a club source said. “He’s only just joined the club and he’s done well. It was a big blow losing Gareth (Bale) last summer and we want to build for the future now. Christian will be a big part of that. “
