Reina has spent the last year on loan at Italian side Napoli after falling out of favour on Merseyside but has maintained his place in the Spanish national team. As a result of the serious knee injury suffered to FC Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, United’s de Gea has taken the 32-year-old’s place in Spain’s 30-man provisional squad and is almost a certainty for the final squad for the World Cup.
The squad has been training together during the past week in preparation for Friday’s friendly test against Bolivia. Reina has been impressed with de Gea’s integration with the squad and feels that he is destined to be the future for Spain in the goalkeeping department. “Due to his age and the current conditions, he is the future. He wants to learn and to help. His attitude is marvelous and at Manchester (United) he has shown that, as well as to learn, he can teach. He is a major keeper,” Reina told AS. De Gea is yet to make an appearance for the senior side but has represented Spain at every level from under-15s and above.
