Real Madrid will not sell Champions League final hero Angel Di Maria despite numerous clubs chasing the Argentine, believing he was available. Di Maria almost left the club last summer when Real signed Gareth Bale but instead Mesut Ozil was dispensed with to make room for the Welshman. It looked as if Di Maria had lost his place in the team with Bale’s arrival but instead he has reinvented himself as an energetic central midfield player.
His performance in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona proved his quality in the central midfield areas and last night he was Real’s man-of-the-match playing to the left of a three-man midfield.
He set up Bale’s crucial goal in extra-time with an electric run and shot, and this latest big game performance has convinced Real he has a future with the club, according to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio. Arsenal have long targeted the Argentine to add some pace to their midfield. Juventus have also tracked him while Paris Saint-Germain saw him as the ideal replacement for the unsettled Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani. Di Maria was La Liga’s top assist-maker last season, making 17 with his driving runs and delivery from wide constant threats.
