Alan Pardew’s side created the unenviable record on Monday when they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London. Laurent Koscielny put Arsenal ahead in the 26th minute and Mesut Ozil doubled the advantage three minutes before the half-time interval. Then midway through the second half Ozil turned provider for Olivier Giroud to score their third and final goal of the match. The loss to Arsene Wenger’s side was Newcastle’s sixth successive in the English top flight following their defeats to Everton (H), Southampton (A), Manchester United (H), Stoke City (A) and Swansea City (H). During the run, the Magpies have scored just one goal and have conceded 17 – almost three a game. Newcastle have also now lost six successive top-flight matches for the first time since January 1987.Pardew’s team are currently ninth in the Premier League table with 46 points from 36 matches.
