Schalke could emerge as surprise contenders to sign in-demand Napoli attacker Marek Hamsik as a replacement for Julian Draxler, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Bundesliga outfit face the blow of losing their star youngster Draxler this summer, with the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid tipped to pay big money for the 20-year-old German sensation. Draxler could command a fee of close to 40million, which would allow Schalke to bring in a big-name replacement, and a European football insider believes they are ready to compete with the likes of Manchester United for Hamsik.
The Slovakian playmaker has been one of Napoli’s best players for several years now, though a dip in form this season could persuade the Serie A side to sell him if a reasonable offer came in.
The 26-year-old has managed 6 goals and 5 assists in all competitions this term, and may benefit from a move to a new club to get his promising career back on track. Schalke have also been linked with the likes of Shinji Kagawa and Lewis Holtby recently as they look to add some quality to their midfield.
