Napoli could try to beat Arsenal to the signing of highly-rated Udinese goalkeeper Simone Scuffet, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 17-year-old has been one of the most exciting breakthrough performers in Serie A this season, establishing himself as first choice for Udinese and attracting plenty of interest from bigger clubs in the process.
The likes of Manchester United and AC Milan have also shown some interest in the promising shot-stopper, who has been compared with Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon.
However, Napoli may now be leading the chase for his signature going into this summer’s transfer window as they eye a replacement for on-loan keeper Pepe Reina, who seems likely to move elsewhere after returning to parent club Liverpool.

Manager Rafael Benitez had been keen to keep Reina permanently, but the Spaniard may be heading for a big move to Barcelona instead, leaving Napoli to ponder other options between the sticks. It remains to be seen if Scuffet will be open to a move to a bigger club so early on in his career, but it has been suggested that he would prefer to remain in Serie A for now, which may leave Arsenal to try their luck with other players in that position.
