Monaco are looking to beat a number of Premier League clubs to the signing of Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Turkish international has been a highly influential member of Diego Simeone’s squad in the last few seasons, and has previously been targeted by the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, though a move to England never materialised.
It is thought that Turan could still look to leave Atletico this summer, with a release clause being installed in his latest contract, though it now looks as though Monaco are set to step up their interest in the player.
The mega-rich Ligue 1 giants brought in big names like Radamel Falcao and Joao Moutinho last summer, and are prepared to spend big again in a bid to close the gap on current league leaders and reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Turan could be another excellent purchase, and may be available for around 34million, if reports are to be believed. A European football insider revealed Monaco’s interest, and believes the skillful midfielder may favour a move to France over England.
