Monaco could compete with the likes of Arsenal for the signing of Real Madrid right-back Daniel Carvajal, FootballDirectNews.com understands. With news that the Spanish giants could be ready to make changes in that position this summer, having been linked with Porto star Danilo da Silva and Toulouse’s Serge Aurier, Arsenal and Inter Milan have recently shown an interest in signing Carvajal if he becomes available this summer.
The 22-year-old has had some trouble finding his best form at the Bernabeu ever since re-joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, after he had caught the eye with a year away from Spain in the Bundesliga. Real were quick to bring their former youth team graduate back to the club, but he has not impressed manager Carlo Ancelotti this season, and could be on the way out if either Danilo or Aurier are brought in in the next transfer window. With Arsenal chasing a replacement for contract rebel Bacary Sagna, Carvajal is one of a number of targets to have cropped up as a possibility.

However, Monaco are also on the lookout for a right-back, having been linked with Sagna themselves at points, and may now rival the Gunners for the young Spaniard. A lot will depend on where Sagna goes, a club insider explained. “He doesn’t look like staying here (at Arsenal), and could go to Monaco. My understanding is that (Arsene) Wenger is keen on Carvajal, but Monaco could also go for him if they don’t get Sagna. “To win two tickets to see Arsenal vs Swansea City on the 25th of March, visit our Facebook page!
