A meeting between Barcelona officials and Lionel Messi today has seen the Argentine forward back the club’s proposed appointment of Luis Enrique. The Argentine forward has struggled this season with a number of niggling injuries and the club’s poor form, but plans being made by president Josep Maria Bartomeu and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta have been backed by Messi himself. Messi, who is currently discussing a new contract, one that would be his seventh in nine years at the Catalan club, has been the subject of meetings this week between his father – Jorge and the club. And, following Tuesday’s meeting, it has emerged in Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo that Messi is fully behind the appointment of Luis Enrique, who is fully expected to take over from Tata Martino this summer. Messi also heard of several squad changes and plans for the coming years, which the 26-year-old is also said to be pleased with.
