Manchester United could rival the likes of Arsenal for the signing of Hoffenheim winger Kevin Volland this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Red Devils will likely undergo a major rebuilding process this summer after a highly disappointing season in which they have failed to deal with the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson following his retirement. A number of key areas need to be addressed, and it is thought that players such as Nani and Antonio Valencia could make way on the flanks as that has been something of a problem position for United for some time. Volland is an outstanding prospect and has really shone in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists, playing mostly on the right-hand side, though he can also operate upfront. Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have all been monitoring the German Under-21 star, but United may be ready to spend big to beat their rivals to his signature as they are determined to get back into the top four and challenge for honours next season. It remains to be seen if the signing of Volland would have the approval of Louis van Gaal, who is expected to come in as manager in the summer.
