Manchester United’s player of the season David de Gea is set to replace Victor Valdes in the Spanish World Cup squad. Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes will not be heading to the World Cup in Brazil this summer due to an injury that he suffered in March and his replacement in Vicente del Bosque’s side has been much debated. Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas and Napoli loanee Pepe Reina are fully expected to be on the plane to Brazil, but calls for the likes of Diego Lopez and De Gea have been much debated. Diego Lopez has been a mainstay in Real Madrid’s La Liga side, whilst De Gea won the Manchester United player of the season award for his consistent performances. De Gea is yet to be receive an international cap, but has represented his country at U15, U17, U19, U20, U21 and U23 level.
