Manchester United’s chances of signing William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon have taken a step backwards after the Portuguese club’s president claimed he would remain with the club. The 22-year-old has been one of the most consistent perfomers in Europe this season, helping Sporting break up the Benfica-Porto strangle hold on Portugal’s top flight. And, his performances have gained plaudits from a number of top European clubs, with Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Man United all being credited with interest. The latter have been extremely keen as they seek to find a replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who will join Italian side Inter Milan this summer. But, Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has frowned upon any potential deal, telling Portuguese daily A Bola: “I pretty sure that the player will stay with us next season. Buy-out clause? I not care because at the moment there are clubs interested, William is happy and so are we. Next season we want to be very competitive, so we will not give up on anyone.”Read more Chelsea transfer news.
