Manchester City will look to compete with the likes of Chelsea for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Premier League champions are hoping to add even more world class names to their squad this summer after their title success, and a new purchase upfront could be a priority for manager Manuel Pellegrini. Star player Sergio Aguero spent much of the season out injured, and despite showing his qualities when available for City, it could be that the club are open to selling him for the right price as he attracts interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona. Cavani could be a great replacement upfront for the Argentine, and is another player who could be on the market this summer after a frustrating first season in France with PSG, where he has failed to establish himself as the focal point of the team over Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Uruguayan international had established himself as one of the world’s best strikers during his time at previous club Napoli, and was reportedly a target for City last summer, while Chelsea and Manchester United seemingly remain his main suitors for now. Still, a club insider believes that, depending largely on the future of Aguero, City could be set to make an offer to lure Cavani to the Etihad Stadium before next season.
