Manchester City have offered Roma defender Mehdi Benatia a ‘stupid’ offer, according to Corriere della Sera. Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia has become one of the most highly regarded centre-backs in European football and this summer is expected to prove a tough one for Italian side Roma, who will receive numerous offers. Manchester United have been heavily credited with interest, whilst reports earlier this week claimed that Benatia’s agent had flown in to Barcelona for talks about their ‘new’ football project, headed by former Roma boss Luis Enrique. Whilst, his future seems to be up for debate, Roma boss Rudi Garcia has maintained that he wants to the defender to remain in the Italian capital. But, a ‘stupid’ offer from Manchester City has been offered to Benatia, with Corriere della Sera reporting that the English champions have sent a package worth 4m per season. Roma duo Kevin Strootman and Adem Ljajic have both confirmed that they want to remain at the club, but it is understood that officials at the Stadio Olimpico are concerned by City’s offer.
