Manchester City could be ready to offer Edin Dzeko to Borussia Dortmund in a bid to land Neven Subotic, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Bosnian striker has been linked with Dortmund in the past as they prepare a list of possible replacements for star player Robert Lewandowski, who is leaving the club for a free transfer to rivals Bayern Munich in the summer. City, on the other hand, are in need of new signings in defence next season after some inconsistent displays from the likes of Martin Demichelis, Matija Nastasic, and Joleon Lescott this year. Subotic has been one of Dortmund’s most impressive players in recent seasons and has previously been linked with the likes of Barcelona, as well as City’s local rivals Manchester United, and Manuel Pellegrini is now determind to bring the Serbian international to the Etihad Stadium.
This potential swap deal looks like one that could benefit both sides, though the Bundesliga giants will no doubt be hoping not to lose yet another key player, having seen big names such as Shinji Kagawa and Mario Goetze leave in recent history, in addition to Lewandowski’s impending departure. Still, a European football insider believes Dortmund would be open to a deal that could see a new striker come in without the need to pay a hefty transfer fee. A similar proposal involving Juventus offering Ciro Immobile in exchange for Mats Hummels has also been mooted, according to reports.
