The 32-year-old has been subject of a link with FC Barcelona who are in pursuit of a new backup goalkeeper with the imminent departure of veteran stopper Pinto at the end of the season. Caballero used to be managed by City boss Manuel Pellegrini, playing a crucial role in Malaga’s famous Champions League run which saw the underdogs reach the quarter-final stage of the competition last season.Pellegrini is said to have personally requested the Argentine’s capture as he sees him as an ideal signing as a second choice goalkeeper, according to Sport Mediaset. Caballero has been integral for Malaga once again this season, playing all 38 of the club’s La Liga matches. Despite being under contract until 2017, it is believed that a bid for around 4million would be enough to secure Caballero’s services with Malaga going through financial problems.
