Manchester City are interested in signing Bayern Munich left-back David Alaba, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The talented 21-year-old is highly rated at the Allianz Arena, having become a key player for the team over the last couple of years as they have established themselves as the best club side in the world.
A number of top clubs were said to be monitoring his situation towards the end of last year as he was yet to sign a new contract, though he did eventually commit his future to the Bavarian giants. Still, with City manager Manuel Pellegrini keen to make improvements at left-back in the summer due to some doubt over the future of Gael Clichy, Alaba looks set to be targeted once again. Bayern will no doubt want to keep hold of a key player and promising youngster, and Alaba himself will likely feel he is in the right place at the moment in terms of winning trophies, though the money on offer at City could well have some sway on his decision. A City insider revealed: “We want to be signing the best players in the world to take this club forward. Alaba is a player we’ve looked at and I think the manager could try to bring him in if one of our current left-backs leave. “
