Liverpool could rival Arsenal for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen youngster Heung-Min Son, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The South Korean winger has been one of the stand-out young players in the Bundesliga for the last few years since first establishing himself at his previous club Hamburg in the 2010/11 season. Son gained plenty of interest from top clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur last summer before eventually joining Leverkusen, and he has maintained his fine form with his new club, scoring nine goals and weighing in with two assists. Arsenal recently showed some interest in signing him this summer as they eye new additions on the flanks, but it is now thought that Liverpool are also set to step up their interest in the player, according to a respected club source.
The Reds have been in tremendous form this season, mounting a surprise title challenge, and manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to continue his policy of signing skillful young players for his squad. With loan signing Victor Moses failing to impress this year, the Nigerian looks likely to return to parent club Chelsea as Rodgers eyes new additions on the flanks, and Son looks like he could fit perfectly into Liverpool’s free-flowing attacking system.
