Liverpool face competition from Atletico Madrid for Benfica striker Rodrigo who want the player as a replacement should Diego Costa leave. FootballDirectNews.com understands Atletico are considering a move for the former Real Madrid trainee as they brace themselves for a summer of speculation concerning their star striker Costa.
The Brazilian-born Spanish international is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer which will open the door for the club to move on Rodrigo.
The 23-year-old Benfica striker has scored 15 goals for the Portuguese giants this season which has sparked interest from around Europe, including in the Premier League. Coach Jorge Jesus previously confirmed that he faces a struggle to keep hold of the former Bolton Wanderers loanee.
He said: “Rodrigo is going through a good moment. It’s normal. Every Benfica player is in a big window.
The league is full of high quality players so it’s normal for other clubs to be interested. ” Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is being linked with several targets this summer as he considers the future of some of his squad. The likes of Fabio Borini and Oussama Assaidi, who are both out on loan, could well leave to free up some squad space.
