Ivan Rakitic could yet remain at Sevilla despite interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool. According to comments made by Sevilla president Jose Castro, the Croatian midfielder will sign an extension with the club in the “coming days”. In comments relayed by Estadio Deportivo, Castro said: “We’ve had two meetings and I believe we have reached an agreement. Both parties have made a big effort to achieve this arrangement”. The 26-year-old had a brilliant season for Sevilla which has attracted interest from plenty of clubs around Europe, including Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus. He was expected to be recruited by Madrid this summer, but remains sceptical about his playing opportunities at the Spanish giants. With Isco, Luka Modric, and Xabi Alonso already at the Bernabeu and Paul Pogba linked with a move, Rakitic is said to favour another season at Sevilla. The Reds are also keen on the player but will have to meet the ˆ40 million (36 million) release clause in his new contract.
