The Premier League runners-up are said to be closing in on a deal to sign the 32-year-old England striker in a surprise 9million move. Liverpool have been negotiating with Southampton in recent weeks over a deal for fellow England star Adam Lallana. Talks are believed to have stalled over Lallana due to disagreements regarding the 25 per cent of the fee which will go to the player’s former club AFC Bournemouth. Southampton would not settle for the 20million offered by Liverpool as the club wanted the Reds to pay extra to cover the 25 per cent (5million) which would go to Bournemouth. As the touted 9million fee for Lambert far exceeds what many would expect for a 32-year-old, it could implicate that Southampton would lower the asking price for Lallana in order to owe less to Bournemouth.
