Liverpool could rival Arsenal and other top clubs for the signing of promising AC Milan youngster Mattia De Sciglio, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Italian football at the moment, and has been linked with numerous top clubs in the last few months as the summer transfer window approaches. Along with Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be keeping tabs on his performances, though Liverpool are also in the hunt for new signings in the full-back positions this summer. De Sciglio can operate at either right-back or left-back, and could be a useful addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad as doubts linger over the future of Glen Johnson and Aly Cissokho.
The latter is on a season-long loan deal at Anfield from Valencia and looks unlikely to stay at the club permanently, while the former is yet to agree a new contract and may look to leave in the near future as he ponders a new challenge. Despite the improved form of youngster Jon Flanagan this season, the Reds could certainly do with De Sciglio to provide more options in the defensive areas.
