Liverpool have made a summer move for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo a priority, according to reports in Portugal. Rojo, who has been capped on 20 occasions by the Argentina national team, has impressed for Sporting Lisbon this season with the side sitting second in the league between Benfica and Porto.
The 24-year-old is expected to be selected as part of Alejandro Sabella’s Argentina squad for the World Cup in what could prove to be a big summer for Rojo for more than one season with Liverpool, according to A Bola, having made the defender a priority signing.

While Liverpool’s attacking potency has grabbed all the headlines, pulling the Reds up to second and just one point behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, the club’s defence has come into question on more than one occasion. Boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign a defender whom he hopes could prove to be a long-term replacement for Jamie Carragher, who retired at the end of last season, and the thought is that Rojo, who is contract at Sporting Lisbon until 2016, could be the ideal candidate.
