Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher thinks his old club will be in pole position to win their first Premier League title if they win crucial home games against rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. The Reds edged to a jittery 2-1 victory at the expense of spirited Sunderland at Anfield tonight, through goals from captain Steven Gerrard and striker Daniel Sturridge, who notched his 20th league strike of the campaign. They leapfrogged City into second spot, one point behind leaders Chelsea, and they face both contenders on Merseyside next month. Former England international Carragher, who spent his entire career with Liverpool, believes the race to finish the season in top spot is still wide open but Brendan Rodgers’ men will give themselves a great chance if they take maximum points from the two stand-out fixtures. He told Sky Sports 1: “If Liverpool beat City and Chelsea at Anfield it is hard to imagine them not winning the title.”Watch Arsenal v Man City Saturday or Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur Sunday. 24 hour Sky Sport Day pass for only 9.99.
