Liverpool could be set to rival the likes of Arsenal for the signing of Real Madrid right-back Daniel Carvajal, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Reds are facing some uncertainty over the future of current right-back Glen Johnson, with the England defender yet to sign a new contract and commit his future to the Anfield club.
The former Chelsea man has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club from Portsmouth in 2009, and Brendan Rodgers is cautiously keeping an eye out on potential replacements if he fails to keep the player at the club. Carvajal is one who looks like he might be available this summer after a somewhat disappointing second spell with Real Madrid. The Spaniard impressed last season at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, prompting Los Blancos to activate a buy-back clause in his contract and bring him back to the Bernabeu.
However, Arsenal, Manchester United and Inter Milan are now chasing him as he seems to have failed to impress manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is keeping an eye out on new signings of his own in that position, with the likes of Danilo, Serge Aurier and Santiago Arias being linked with the Spanish giants. Liverpool could be a good move for Carvajal, with Rodgers’ attacking style suiting him well and the former Swansea City boss showing a knack for lifting players’ careers when they’re in a disappointing run of form.
