Liverpool have gone out with a whimper in the race for the Premier League, according to Reds legend Robbie Fowler.  The Merseysiders were firmly in the driving seat going into the final straight after defeating Manchester City but a nightmare Steven Gerrard slip-up to Chelsea at Anfield contributed to a 2-0 defeat that handed the initiative back to the Etihad outfit.  Brendan Rodgers’ men then threw away a 3-0 lead at Selhurst Park to Crystal Palace to come away with just a point.  City, meanwhile, have won their four games after dropping points at home to Sunderland and Liverpool in April. Liverpool now need to beat Newcastle at home and hope City lose to West Ham at the Etihad to lift the title. Although the Reds are just two points behind City they have a vastly inferior goal average that is 13 goals worse. And Fowler thinks his old club had the title within reach but blew it at the final hurdle.  It’s been fantastic that the season has gone all the way but there have been some disappointments along the way with Liverpool going out with a bit of a whimper, he told Sky Sports.
To go from seventh to where they are is amazing but I think City will lift the trophy.
