Liverpool could target Arsenal winger Theo Walcott as part of a summer spending spree.

The Reds look set to receive a major cash boost for this summer’s transfer window after securing qualification for next season’s Champions League for the first time since 2009, and may also be about to celebrate a Premier League title victory in the coming weeks.

The club’s return to prominence is likely to see them target some big names before next season, and a club insider believes Walcott could be among the names in mind for manager Brendan Rodgers, who is believed to be keen on bringing in new players on the flanks.

Victor Moses is currently at the club on loan from Chelsea, but has struggled to impress in his time at Anfield, while Oussama Assaidi, out on loan at Stoke City, also looks unlikely to become part of the first-team setup anytime soon.

Walcott has been linked with Liverpool in the past, and may not be such an unrealistic target as Arsenal still face a fight to secure fourth spot this season, while the FA Cup remains their only hope for silverware.

The 25-year-old is known for having been a supporter of the Merseyside giants during his youth, and could be keen to take on a new challenge with his boyhood club as they seek to establish themselves among Europe’s elite again.

After refusing to sell Luis Suarez to the Gunners last summer, Liverpool may also find they have a tough time persuading the north London side to sell a key player to a rival.
