Liverpool will battle Manchester United for the signature of Queens Park Rangers attacker Adel Taarabt at the end of the season, [football] direct news understands. A source close to Anfield told FDN the Premier League leaders are monitoring the Morocco international’s loan spell at AC Milan with interest, while a United insider confirmed he remains on their radar. Should both clubs lock horns, Liverpool are hopeful that their presence in next season’s Champions League will give them the edge over their bitter rivals, who will not be present in Europe’s biggest club competition. Taarabt’s contract with Championship outfit QPR has more than two years left to run but there is little chance of him figuring for the London club again, even if they are promoted back to the top flight via the play-offs. His high salary has been a problem at Loftus Road since the side’s relegation last term and they would be willing to do business if a suitable offer came in this summer. Taarabt has scored four goals in 11 appearances for Milan.
