Liverpool and Arsenal are ready to go to battle for Olympique de Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena this summer. The French midfielder is struggling for game time at the Stade Velodrome as youngster Florian Thauvin is preferred alongside Dimitri Payet. Thauvin , 21,arrived last summer from Lille and immediately made an impact on the first team at the expense of the more experienced Valbuena. That has led to some friction among the squad at Marseille with Valbuena apparently not willing to pass to Thauvin and fellow midfielder Dimitri Payet. A club insider is quoted in Le 10 Sport said Valbuena sometimes seems unwilling to pass although doubts over whether that is voluntary remain unclear. That opens the door for a summer exit with Liverpool and Arsenal both ready to pounce. The Reds were heavily linked with a move for the 29-year-old back in January and are closely monitoring his situation in the south of France. They will, however, face competition from rivals Arsenal for the French international midfielder. Read more Arsenal transfer news.
