Former England striker Gary Lineker has praised Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho following last night’s dramatic Champions League quarter-final win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Mourinho’s record of having never lost a Champions League quarter-final tie was in severe jeopardy after losing 3-1 at the Parc des Princes in the first leg. Chelsea required at least two goals in the return leg at Stamford Bridge to stand any chance in progressing through to the semi-finals, and keeping Mourinho’s record in tact. Goals from Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba clinched an unlikely victory over PSG, who were without talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic through injury, on Tuesday night to book a place in the Champions League semi-finals, which will see both legs played either side of Chelsea’s trip to Liverpool on 27 April.

Mourinho has now reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in each of the last four seasons with Real Madrid and Chelsea, winning the competition the year before with Inter. Lineker praised Chelsea and Mourinho following last night’s victory, labelling the Portuguese as a “winner”.
He wrote on his Twitter account: “Well done Chelsea. Great effort! Love him or loathe him, Mourinho is a winner!”Watch the second leg of UEFA Champions League quarter-final: Bayern Munich face Manchester United
