Former England striker Gary Lineker believes that Jack Wilshere’s latest injury could mean he is fully rested ahead of the World Cup. Wilshere clashed with Daniel Agger during Wednesday night’s 1-0 win at Wembley – the Arsenal midfielder was seen in pain after kicking the studs of the Liverpool and Denmark defender.
The Arsenal midfielder was expected to be taken off – Adam Lallana had begun to warm-up – however, Wilshere returned to the game and played for an hour before eventually coming off as part of a swarm of substitutions. Initial scans suggested that the 22-year-old only suffered minor bruising, although further tests on Thursday have shown that Wilshere will be out for around six weeks with a hairline fracture in his foot. It means that Wilshere will miss most of what is left of Arsenal’s season, he is expected to return for the final few games, but Lineker feels that his latest setback could work in England’s favour ahead of the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
He wrote on his Twitter account: “Bad news that @JackWilshere will be out for 6 weeks. Big blow for Arsenal, but not necessarily England. Refreshed and raring to go for WC. ”
