Arsenal are plotting a swap deal for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez which would see midfield man Mikel Arteta move in the opposite direction, [football] direct news understands. A source close to the Emirates Stadium told FDN the Gunners are desperate to add to their strikeforce this summer and boss Arsene Wenger is confident of helping Mexico hitman Hernandez rediscover his best form. Arteta, who has little more than 12 months remaining on his contract, retains a close relationship with United manager David Moyes, his former mentor at Everton. The north London outfit hope to capitalise on the duo’s friendship and the Red Devils’ urgent search for midfield reinforcements by including the 32-year-old in their offer for Hernandez. The 25-year-old is behind strikers Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck at Old Trafford and has failed to replicate the goalscoring touch he demonstrated in the 2010/11 campaign, which saw him notch 20 goals. He would provide much-needed competition for Arsenal targetman Olivier Giroud.
