Former Liverpool player Terry McDermott claims Reds captain Steven Gerrard is the club’s best ever player, having even surpassed Kenny Dalglish. Skipper Gerrard led a tearful post-match team-talk on the pitch following his side’s dramatic 3-2 victory over rivals Manchester City, which took them a step closer to the Premier League title. Club legend Dalglish is widely-acknowledged as Liverpool’s all-time great and also won a host of silverware during two spells as manager. However McDermott, who spent eight years at Anfield between 1974 and 1982, insists veteran Gerrard should now be considered number one. He said on Twitter: “The atmosphere at Anfield was as loud as I have ever heard it, Gerrard immense and showed why he’s LFC’s greatest ever, (Raheem) Sterling sublime #lfc.”When asked by one of his followers to clarify if he believed Gerrard is even better than Dalglish, he added: “Yes I do, even if Liverpool don’t win the league.”Read more Liverpool transfer news.
