Brendan Rodgers has been tracking the German-Turkish star over the last few months and a 10million move has almost been tied up. The Reds boss was in attendance to watch Can in early April as Leverkusen took on Hamburg in a 2-1 defeat for Sascha Lewandowski’s side, when Can played at centre-back. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of German football’s brightest talents and Leverkusen look resigned to losing him, according to respected journalist Stefan Klttermann. Leverkusen director Michael Reschke recently stated: “We will do everything so that Emre can at least play another year with us,” though their chances of doing so are slim. The club only signed Can from Bayern Munich last season for 4.5million but are now set to lose him for 5.5million more. The future of midfield partner Gonzalo Castro is also in doubt meaning that Leverkusen will need to work hard to find not one, but two new midfielders in the summer.
