Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has refused to point the finger at ex-boss Sir Alex Ferguson for David Moyes’ unsuccessful stint as manager at Old Trafford. Moyes was sacked today after only nine months, and Ferguson has come in for criticism for recommending his fellow countryman for the role. United are marooned in seventh place in the Premier League table, have exited all cup competitions and cannot qualify for next season’s Champions League. However, Keane will not blame Ferguson despite his well-documented fall-out with his old mentor. He told ITV Football: “I wouldn’t necessarily say he was Alex Ferguson’s pick – he obviously put his name forward and the club had to make the decision, but you can’t be critical of Alex Ferguson.“To be seventh in the league table is disappointing and David Moyes does have to take responsibility for that, but you still need people around you to help you and I don’t think he has had that support, especially from the players.”Read more Manchester United transfer news.
