Former England striker Rodney Marsh does not believe that Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge will partner each other up front agains Italy. England face Italy in their opening World Cup game in Brazil with many predicting that Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson will opt for Manchester United striker Rooney and Liverpool forward Sturridge will play alongside each other up front. Sturridge was the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League this season with 22 goals, helping Liverpool to second in the table and qualifying for the Champions League, while Rooney netted 17 times for a disappointing Man United side. Many have predicted Sturridge to play a central role with Rooney playing just behind, however, former England striker Marsh does not believe that Hodgson will pick the pair together against Italy when the Three Lions’ World Cup campaign begins on 14 June.
